National Falls Prevention Awareness Day

This Saturday, September 22nd, marks the 10th annual National Falls Prevention Awareness Day, sponsored by the National Council on Aging (NCOA). Falls are the leading cause of injury related emergency department visits for older adults, the major cause of hip fractures, and responsible for more than half of fatal head injuries. The annual Falls Prevention Awareness Day (FPAD) raises awareness about how to prevent fall-related injuries amongst older adults.

Partners on national, state, and local levels have collaborated together to put in place educational plans about the impact of falls, fall prevention strategies, and advocate for the expansion of evidence-based community fall prevention programs. The NCOA has organized a day of events, meetings, and webinars to start the conversation. You can learn more about their program on their webpage here.
